Prahok fish imported from Vietnam found to be contaminated
12 March 2018
Takeo province: Camcontrol product control officials have seized a quantity of fish that was imported from Vietnam for making prahok, after it was found to contain formalin. This chemical, which is used to preserve the fish, can cause serious health problems such as nausea and vomiting.
The authorities said that Cambodian villagers who are making the prahok often have no idea that the fish is contaminated. They have announced a crackdown on the illegal sales of contaminated food imports.

A big sigh of relief and you can all go back to eating your uncontaminated prahok.“We shuttered the facility that was producing fish tainted with formalin,” Mr Leangkong said. “We burned all the fish in Angkanh commune near the commune office. In total, there was about one tonne of fish.”
