Pulled off our moto by bag snatcher in Kep

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Pulled off our moto by bag snatcher in Kep

Post by dangermousetherapy »

On Sunday afternoon my girlfriend was driving down the main road near Kep Market and I was sitting on the back with a shoulder bag. Three motos surrounded us and one guy attempted to snatch by bag but only succeeded in pulling us of our moto. Luckily I am just grazed and bruised but my girlfriend has hurt her knee quite badly and can hardly walk (we had a nurse friend take a look and it just bad bruising).

I never expected this to happen in Kep! We have lived here for a few months and always felt totally safe. Some local friends said there was another similar incident recently. Please remember to stash bags / purses when driving.

The usual explanation for a rise in crime is Khmer New Year, holidays coming up. Watch your bags folks.

Did you report the incident to the competent authorities ? Kep's a small place and the thugs are probably known if they are local.
Sorry to hear you got injured. Best to the girlfriend.

Should be a 'stickied' thread at the top of the page with a title along the lines of 'Keep your wits about you and your belongings safe for the forthcoming holiday'
If you enjoy noise pollution and obnoxious driving practices, Phnom Penh is the place for you!

Kep your wits about you*
"The revolution did more than legally create the United States; it transformed American society... Far from remaining monarchical, hierarchy-ridden subjects on the margin of civilization, Americans had become, almost overnight, the most liberal, the most democratic, the most commercial minded, and the most modern people in the world." - Gordon S. Having a bag on you while riding a motorbike is pretty sensible. It's not like he was juggling iphones while riding a unicycle.

Unfortunately not all 7.6 billion people in this world are as sharp or on the ball as you are, squire.
