It was the classic Sunday night, drunk jealous husband, packing a pistol, syndrome.
A traffic police officer was arrested on Sunday night after firing five bullets into the air as he threatened to kill his wife over jealousy in Siem Reap province.

The shooting took place at about 7pm at the Container Market located in Siem Reap city, said Keo Than, a Siem Reap city police officer.

Mr Than identified the arrested officer as Captain Tan Phirum, 35, a traffic cop with the provincial police now accused of illegal use of a weapon.
Mr Than said that on Sunday night, Cap Phirum, who was often jealous of his 28-year-old wife, went to get drinks and food with her at the Container Market.

While eating soup, Cap Phirum got into an argument with his wife, Mr Than said, adding that he then pulled a pistol from his waist and fired two shots into the air.

After the shots, the couple left the market and went home, where Cap Phirum fired three more shots into the air, said Mr Than.
