Chinese gambler found murdered in hotel room
7 March 2018
A Chinese national was found murdered in his hotel room on Monday at the Grand Diamond City Hotel in Banteay Meanchey province’s Poipet city.
Seth Saroeun, deputy provincial police chief of criminal investigations, identified the victim as Chen Sheng, 52, a heavy gambler.
Mr Saroeun said the victim arrived at the hotel on February 28 and that his body was found by a room cleaner on his bed on Monday afternoon.
“According to our preliminary conclusion, the case is considered a murder because there were injuries on the victim’s throat, neck and hands,” Mr Saroeun said. “The suspects probably killed him while he was sleeping on the bed by beating him and strangling him.
“After killing the victim, they stole his money and other valuables and fled,” he added.
Mr Saroeun said that police do not yet know the identities of the suspects and are in the process of reviewing CCTV footage obtained from the hotel.

If it happened in Thailand, it would have been ruled a suicide and no investigation would be needed
