13 October 2017
PHNOM PENH - A violent attack on a taxi driver occurred yesterday at 8:10am at Phnom Penh International Airport when four tuktuk drivers took exception to a taxi driver parking in their space.
The victim, Cheav Savattha, 34, a freelance taxi driver, was parked outside the airport waiting for a customer from the airport when the tuktuk drivers asked him to move. "freelance taxi driver" = PassApp/Uber etc presumably. Not surprised they would get pissed off.

Re: Tuktuk drivers attack taxi driver at Phnom Penh International Airport
In order to operate a tuk tuk business from within the airport grounds the owner must buy a concession which lasts for the life of the airport and gives them exclusive rights to pick up passengers the concession costs around $2000 USD and they are often bought and sold as there is a finite number of concessions. There is some leeway for people coming to pick up family etc in a tuk tuk but I guess there are some sort of unspoken rules. Many tuk tuk drivers rent the concession from the owner in order to operate there so I can see why they would get pissed off at a uber pick up. Anyone can buy one of these concessions and i have thought about buying one for the wife to control as you can make good earning a month renting them out.
