(Competent) Clinic/Doctors List

Post by Bitte_Kein_Lexus »

I know this is a topic which is hit upon now and then, but I'd be interested in a comprehensive update of people's experience with particular clinics, doctors or hospitals. I rarely ever visit doctors here, so I'm completely out of touch with who's good or not. I've heard both good and bad stuff regarding Central Clinic on 154. Anyone have direct experience?

If you've had a good experience with a doctor's diagnosis skills, please share.

I think this is a very good topic. Whilst I have rarely gotten sick enough to visit a doctor in Cambodia, my daughter was susceptible to ear infections when she was younger and this often caused us to visit doctors.

From the outset, the only doctor I have complete faith in is Dr. Gavin Scott. He is the only Doctor who consistently diagnosed and treated ailments correctly. Unfortunately, as a sole practitioner, he is not always available and since temperatures tend to go up at night and kids are particularly prone to them, his services are not entirely practical.

The other Doctor that seemed well qualified and gave good diagnoses was Dr. Michel Sebban16 Street 57, BKK1, Phnom Penh. He is a qualified paediatrician and has an excellent manner with kids, but as we don't speak French, sometimes there was a slight language barrier. If I remember correctly, he is open Saturdays but not Sundays.

Khema Clinic - we once visited them at night and without any form of examination, they diagnosed Dengue Fever. This was based solely on the fact that there was a mosquito bite on my daughter's body and the recommendation was to stay in overnight for monitoring. The 'Doctor' did not take kindly to being asked any questions regarding his diagnosis.

Gloria Christie - a complete quack and the operation reflected that in its entirety. At one point, her Cambodian assistant prodded my daughter 3 or 4 times trying to find a vein to administer some form of rehydration fluid.

Sunrise Japanese Hospital.

Great facilities, equipment, was satisfied with Dr Toshiro.

Dr Scott I found knowledgeable, if a little prickly to being told medical history without accompanying records.

Gloria - great for getting stitches and minor wound tending at low cost.

Khema/SOS - okay, not fully confident in them, but get free consultation through my work when needed.

GP:
Scott. Loads of experience, and can refer you. Tons of local and regional knowlegde. Can be grumpy: yes. Can be harsh: yes. Knowledgeable: without doubt. Availability in case of needing a GP within an hour might be a problem. But I once called him at 8 at night and he answered the call and provided me with advice. Ever since he can't do wrong.

Imaging:
Aurore clinic. Bang for your buck for an echo, all trained in France as far as I know.
Paramed: extensive testing of blood, urine, stool, with fast results.

Gynecology:
Royal Phnom Penh. Excellent female gynecologist from Myanmar. Look her up on their website, her name slipped my mind.

Khema clinic (Tuol Kork), clinic with lots of specialists:
Loads of doctors, but not all full time working there. Some really good doc's there (doing shifts in Calmette during the weekdays but doing weekend shifts there. All seem to have at least a Western license. Not extremely expensive, but far from cheap.

Avoid:
Calmette. Used their service once. They simply did everything wrong. I mean everything. Experience with their Nephologists and lab. Avoid these at all cost.

No. A few are, most are not. Khema tends to hire the (best?) ones with a foreign certificate. I know one nepholologist (trained in France) and one infectious disease specialist (trained in Belgium) working for Khema in the weekends. During weekdays they work in Calmette. Not sure they deliver the same level of service there though.... The problem is a doc is only as good as the services surrounding him or her. If the lab is unreliable......

Khema also have their own docs working there a few days or even full time. They also share docs with Royal PP.....
