The buffalo riding was part of an alternative-type tour for tourists where they drank a lot of alcohol and did unusual things. It was organized and publicized by a longterm British expat, Liam Cox. It appears that the photos were posted on social media last month, and they have since been deleted by the poster, but the "scandal" has only recently hit the news. The Filipinos are very upset.

A British expat, who has been living for a long time in the Philippines, has caused an uproar by posting photos of naked tourists riding water buffalo, a symbol of Philippine national identity. Liam Cox was reportedly organizing buffalo treks for tourists, including for naturist groups. Why he felt the need to post photos on Facebook is not sure, but the exposure has been immense.

Buffalos and Brits are in the regional news lately.
Being probed by Filipino cops sounds even more uncomfortable than naked buffalo riding, but it remains to be seen if the Brit will be charged with something. It will also be interesting to see if naked buffalo riding is treated more or less leniently than holding a pool party without paying permission.

Liam Cox has carried out the “drunken carabao” tour on the remote holiday island of Siargao for several years.

But the expat sparked fury earlier this month after posting snaps of a nude couple riding the buffalos – considered sacred in the region.

Cops have now filed a case of “grave scandal” against the surfer as local officials slammed him for “disrespecting the culture".

Inspector Joel Liong, Chief of Police in Surigao City, said on Friday: "Police have filed a case against Mr Liam Cox a British national.
"He admitted that he was involved with the nakedness and said that the group had been drinking a lot of wine and liquor during the day time."

The Chief of Police in the region has been ordered to arrest anyone spotted riding in the nude.
