Re: Brittney & Michelle to the Rescue
but were talking about sex slaves and trafficking, not girls who work in the touristy bars down 136, as they are all free to leave if they feel like they want a career change, theres a big difference, pczz wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2018 1:33 am"so the Cambodian sex trafficking/slave trade stems from the west having strip and lap dancing clubs?" I did not say it was.You said we didn't have ladybars in the west, I just listed the alternatives people looking for sexual entertainment we do haveJamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2018 12:14 am
so the Cambodian sex trafficking/slave trade stems from the west having strip and lap dancing clubs? really?
you do know Sex slavery and trafficking has been a thing in Asia long before the modern strip joints and lapdancing clubs in the West, or the Hostess bars in the East
etc etc...haha exactly, i go out drinking in the bars and KTVs out on 2004 street, or the KTVs, bars and beer gardens in SHV down KTV street and down by the port and other side streets, or even the not so well known "Khmer Pub Street" in Siem Reap, theres also all the KTVs down chicken farm road in Koh Kong, even quiet Takeo has a good number of KTVs and massage joints,Username Taken wrote: ↑Wed Feb 14, 2018 11:26 pm You might like to take a drive out on St 2004 around this time of night. How many bars, karaokes, Khmers and working girls do you see? Now, how many westerners do you see?
St 136 is touristville.
as i mentioned in an earlier post, the amount of KTVs, beer gardens and Massa/brothels in Cambodia far outnumber the amount of Tourist girly bars, the number of girls working in Hostess bars is far inferior to the number of girls working in the KTVs aimed at Asian clientele,
for the girls to say the civilized west is the route of the Cambodian sex slave trade/trafficking is quite ill informed i think
I am fuilly aware of the KTV, but I really do not see your point. I don't care what Cambodians get up to and I am not blaming the west for creating the sex trade, but its damn sure if westerners stopped paying girls for sex then they the demand would be less and the girls would have toget other jobs, so western tourists are a contributory factor in the size of the trade, as are Chinese and every other category of sex tourist who comes to the area.
if the tourist bars in Daum Penh all shut down then most of the girls would just end up in one of the many KTVs dotted around town or something if they still wanted to ply their trade, sure westerners do contribute to the size of the trade, cant deny that, but i dont think its as big as you think, Thailand, sure, but Cambodia? Theres more hostess bars in just 3 streets in Pattaya (Soi 6+7+8) than in the whole of Cambodia lol

Re: Brittney & Michelle to the Rescue
they used to lounge around and roam free outside their places and wave and hello passers by, but all the fat ugly foreign FEMALE NGO LOAFERS found this to be too intimidating and so kicked up a stink at a time when they had sway and influence and so they banned the girls from roaming free outside.
perhaps they can return to that again now that the NGOs have been somewhat neutered ?

Actually when I was doing work regarding sexwork and STI's in Thailand in the late "80's the breakdown of "local" vs "foreigner" involvement, was, the local clientele constituted around 96%, of the remaining 4% over half were from neighboring countries, leaving less than 2% from "the west" However the earnings of the girls serving foreigners was far in excess of the girls involved with local customers.Jamie_Lambo wrote: ↑Thu Feb 15, 2018 3:45 am

The earning differential translated into differing health outcomes. For example when testing began for HIV/AIDS the "foreign" cohort tested about 5%. Girls servicing the local cohort, for example the brothels along the Ping River in Changmai tested between 40% and 60%
Similarly in Phnom Penh, back in the late '90's there were many "brothel areas" covering the city. The Toul Kork Dyke Road in its hey day had around 2000 girls working, and that was just one area. Successive crackdowns have served to make the establishments less overt, but they are still there. The cohort serving foreign clients is small compared to that serving local clients.

There's is a Q&A with the Cambodian country director in today's Khmer Times. http://www.khmertimeskh.com/50109246/ta ... -qa-oxfam/ Interestingly, there is no mention of donors paying for Oxfam staff to hold wild sex orgies with Haitian hookers in expensive villas .
