Is Cambodia safe for Americans or should I just visit Thailand instead?

I haven't heard of a single case of an American - or any nationality, apart from Vietnamese - being targeted verbally or otherwise simply because of nationality. Cambodians are friendly. Come.

Haha, so far in reading this thread, I'm a Thailand -loving hipster who should be ripped from limb-to-limb [underlying subtext] for the 230,000 sorties flown by his government when this writer was still in diapers, too stupid to realize that the danger of gun violence in his home country vastly outweighs the potential risk of travel to Cambodia. But I also hear in this the answer to my question which is that there's nothing to worry about, Cambodia is same as it ever was. For that, I thank you. Kind regards,

It all depends on if you want to shoot Thai schoolkids or Khmer schoolkids

no problems for either country,
follow simple rules you follow at home.
Think about a visit to Myanmar before it closes again.

Do you know that the cover picture for this popular pop song was actually taken at the Thammasat University Massacre in Bangkok, Thailand in 1976, and not Cambodia?
There have been many massacres in Thailand since, things have calmed down in Cambodia and there haven't been any massacres in more than two decades. Thailand is very unstable.

Silence, exile, and cunning.

Dear OP,
dont take some of the posters too serious. They are vagrant individuals who came over from another online place related to Cambodia. As they have past their best before date they cant stop old habits while not being banned due to their state of mind and the benevolence of the administrator. It is like the village fool of the old days, just in higher numbers.
You won't have any problems as a tourist. Keep your clothes on and if you have some interest in a local or foreign woman, express it behind closed doors. Be careful with street food, not as clean as in Thailand. That might be your biggest problem. The long terms effects of that food can be studied with the above described cases.
Have a nice trip and enjoy your time
