St Valentines Day causes chicken-stealing and other criminal acts

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

There was a report in the Phnom Penh Post a couple of years ago on this practice. The cops strip them down to their underwear and photograph them to bring shame upon the perps and their families.

After they strip them down to their underwear, the cops should force the perps to play twister.

I'm assuming they are new members of Kandal's notorious underwear gang:

Good find. A classic "Only in Cambodia" news item. Lol.
Image
A young man in police custody, arrested on suspicion of being a bong thom-bong toich and forced by police to pose with a weapon for this photograph, supplied to the Post by a Khmer-language newspaper.

The prevailing crime trend in Kandal province this year resembles the stuff of low-budget Hong Kong gangster movies: youth gangs, some clad only in underwear, some wielding samurai swords, have been targeted by an elite military unit known as the Flying Tigers.

In May, a group of at least five young men - armed with an AK-47 and going mostly au naturel - made a string of daring home burglaries in Kien Svay district, making off with untold jewelry and cash. Kandal's underwear bandits are the most bizarre manifestation of the broader problem of bong thom-bong toich - "big brother-littlebrother"- crime.

Maybe the underwear gang is just a Y-front for a money-laundering operation.

Haven't heard any mention of the Flying Tigers in a long time. That article was from 2006. Do they still have the Flying Tigers?

Yes, but you can only see them with the pink flying elephants after drinking rice wine
