More Chinese Takeover in Sihanoukville

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

there were some claims today on FB that Chinese refer to the city formerly known as Sihanoukville or Kampong Saom as " Westport"
Gives a pretty good idea of the intent.

westport = 西港 which is short for 西哈努克港 (sihanoukville port)

i think they are here in Cambodia to stay.

capitalism finds it's ultimate expression in statism.
i can't figure out if it is fascism or communism though.

no accident that China tops the IQ maps.

how stupid was the west for not investing in international infrastructure?

but i suppose it was not part of the vision of post industrial social architects.

hell, their own infrastructure is crumbling internally and the debt threatens the world economy.

wars have always been the reboot mechanism for failed economies.

I think you are going in the right direction, but the new people are on a long time rent agreement. But it is kind to say we are no longer welcome in their new plans.

No, No, No. In saying rent agreement, I was refering to renting the country. Yes the new visitor will make very large monies. Also they will rebuild the country.

the PRC gov will grab these casino guys at some point wholesale. what they are doing is clearly illegal in Chinese law.
then the whole thing will be resumed by the khmers for free or nearly so.
china gov happy to defang the mafia and prosecute them.
local gov/owners happy with all the money and empty buildings they will inherit when casino lease holders default.

the port and rail investments on the other hand are already progressing rapidly and here to stay.

Of course, these are just designed to help flood Cambodia with Chinese "goods" (China's version of the opium wars I guess) and/or help export Chinese-owned factory garments on favorable "poor Cambodia" tariff terms to Europe and America.
