Do you carry your passport/copy?
Re: Do you carry your passport/copy?
Just a word of warning. When I had a motorbike crash in the kingdom in 2010 while I lay fucked up on the road i had to fend off the locals from trying to steal my phone out of my pocket.StroppyChops wrote:I have an ICE app on my Android phone that works from the lock screen - has multiple languages, and will even dial my nominated numbers directly, so, Mrs Stroppy and the Embassy. Contains health and medical information, insurance information, and so on. The shell is multilingual with about 20 languages to choose from - so a Good Samaritan can pick up my phone (assuming it hasn't gone under a Lexus or been stolen), see the international ICE symbol, click it, choose their language (not including Khmer yet, unfortunately) and direct dial the appropriate person or party, without accessing anything else on my encrypted phone. I do need the equivalent data on a wallet card.
As for the contents of your phone, given the data partition has been mounted already (on boot), the data will be in a decrypted state.

There's a French run outfit at the Cambodiana (ground floor offices) and I chose "Asia Insurance" - $80 a year I think...$1-2,000 theft, $5,000 Health no deduct, $5000 (I think) other party - maybe more....actually can't remember exact limits but for paying next to nothing it makes complete sense - they give you a sticker for your bike and they come to scene to assist (Khmers at office)...they also get you a license problem free and cheap...StroppyChops wrote:Tell me more about this insurance, dagenham, please - who with, how much?
Why would someone (who is not absolutely skint and/or homeless) who drives a moto not get license/insurance here? And not a complete knob who is in absolute denial about where they are driving/living? It aint Sydney with fast ambulances and free health care, eh? Really now...time to grow up chaps...

Thanks - we have comprehensive expat insurance underwritten by Allianz, I am chasing insurance specifically for our tuktuk and motorbike which are not covered as they are not rentals.dagenham wrote:There's a French run outfit at the Cambodiana (ground floor offices) and I chose "Asia Insurance" - $80 a year I think...$1-2,000 theft, %5,000 Health no deduct, $5000 (I think) other party - maybe more....actually can't remember exact limits but for paying next to nothing it makes complete sense - they give you a sticker for your bike and they come to scene to assist (Khmers at office)...they also get you a license problem free and cheap....StroppyChops wrote:Tell me more about this insurance, dagenham, please - who with, how much?

dagenham, you seriously need some therapy man. you seem to have obsessive personality disorder. perhaps that's why you're here... the regular world ran you out. you won't drink yourself into a mad house, you'll just stroll right in one day while telling the doctors how much you're judging them for their various actions you seem to see something much deeper in, even when it isn't there.
until that time, you should really probably find a hobby and/or get laid. for find getting laid to be an acceptable hobby. might buy you some time if you get the poison out regularly.

Re: Do you carry your passport/copy?
i paid $30 extra for the passport ID card (when i renewed my passport book), and carry that in my wallet. its only good for travel to mexico and canada from the US, but i was told i can get into the embassy with it, and it supposedly acts as proof of citizenship if i ever lose my passport book traveling overeas.
so i guess its a good investment for any US citizen traveling alot.

Re: Do you carry your passport/copy?
My god, you're so uptight it hurts. I've NEVER carried my passport (or a copy of it) with me. In fact, I'd say it's irresponsible to carry it around as you could easily lose it or have it stolen.dagenham wrote:You're brain dead and beyond "gone local" if you don't keep a copy of your passport in your bike/moto along with contact info (relatives/friends in area who will help you out) and insurance info (if applicable)...what happens when you get hit and pass out?
Also, if you don't have a Khmer drivers license you're an idiot - what happens when you get into an accident with a local involving serious injury/death?
Uhh..it'll never happen to me..uhh..
Back in the "real world" you would never drive anything anywhere without needed documents/licenses...
but that's why all the fleeing "Libertarians" from the totalitarian, fascist, PC "Nanny State" are here - so they don't have to ever do anything sensible and responsible...
