Married Cambodian Woman Working in South Korea Blackmailed For $30,000 Over Sexting Pictures
Phnom Penh: On February 5, Angsnoul Police arrested a 32 year old Cambodian man, Pha Phanna, for using social media to scam a Cambodian woman (who is an expat in Korea) over her naked pictures. The police arrested the man at LHR gas station, Pongnea Leur District, Kandal provice, and confiscated $12,820 USD in Wing Receipts, Honda Scooppy motorbike plate no.1GQ-9967, 1 phone, wallet with $30 USD cash, ID card, and some jewelry.
According to the police, the female victim went to work in korea in 2013, then came back to Cambodia on April 2017 to get married with a Cambodian man and stayed home for 1 month and a half, then went back to work in South Korea. In early of May 2017, she has cheated on her husband with another man (the scammer) in Cambodia who she met through Facebook.
In June 2017 she fell in love with him, not knowing that he was a scammer and had been incarcerated for 12 years before, from 2003 to 2014. As she fell in love online, they decided to take it up a notch and have video sex.
After getting her naked pictures and videos, the man extorted her, threatening to show her exotic pictures to her husband and family. She was scared of that so she sent him money again and again starting on June 26, 2017 she sent $6,000 USD through Wing. He still continued to threaten her so she borrowed money from a friend and sent him another $11,000 USD. He continued asking for money, so she borrowed more money from a co-worker in Korea and sent him another 8,790 USD, and again for 3,500 USD and for the last time she send him 1,650 USD through Western Union but he continued to try and extort her. After she ran out of money she decided to tell her family and husband and asked for the permission from the Korean company to come back to Cambodian to file a complaint against the man.
After received the complaint the authorities arrested the scammer at Pongnea Leur District immediately for questioning. He confessed to extorting the woman and had blown all the money at the casino.
Furthermore, the suspect used to be friends with victim's husband when they studied Korean together in Kampong Snang.
