Concern that 24h internet shops are fronts for illegal activities
Siem Reap: The inhabitants of Siem Reap have raised concerns about 24h internet shops, which they suspect to be fronts for online gaming. They are worried that these places attract thieving and prostitution.
They say there are 300 online gambling places disguised as internet 24 hours shops which are similar to casinos with many gambling such as poker, Bacarrat, Lotto, Vietnamese lottery, Thai Lottery, Shooting Fish game, Khla Klok game, cock-fighting and other games, and there is also drug trafficking inside.
According to sources from the local cops, some shops have no business license, only a permit for opening an internet and coffee shop, but when police officers carry out their inspections they go to take the money without about caring anything else.

There are internet places where i live that charge about. £1 -&2 an hour, one place has 10 computers. Even if it was full for 12 hours a day which it isn,t how do they make enough to pay wages, rent etc.

I was under the impression that most of those 24 hour internet joints made their money by taking bets on football, mostly the EPL.
It seems that the store has an account with some online betting website and they place the bet on behalf of the customer who pays the store in cash. If the customer wins, the store takes a commission. If the customer loses, the store makes nothing.
If you go into one of these places on a Saturday night during the EPL season, it is obvious what is going on.

Funny during the World cup the Khmer were going nuts laying bets on England to win. I asked why? "we watch English football every week. English footballer very good" followed by a list of all the high earning stars in the EPL who are not English and can't play for England in the world cup Hope they are a bit more clued up by next time or the owners will not be making much commission, although I think they charge a small fee for placing the bet, win or lose

Isn't viewing pornography also illegal? Clearly some of the patrons are criminal masturbators, if my browser history is anything to go by.
