Crackdown on illegal Chinese workers in Phnom Penh
Phnom Penh: On January 16, at 6:30 AM, a number of Chinese workers were arrested for living and working illegally, on Street 273, Khan Aureusey, Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Mr. Seang Sok, deputy prosecutor of the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and Lim Yeang Hay, a clerk, inspected a Chinese construction site and their accommodation. 74 Chinese, including two women, had their papers inspected. The police found 22 passports with no work book/work permit.
Police have sent them to the department of immigration for legal action.

Too small for me to see,, but do those visa's have a one month , six month or one year expiry date.

Gen. Sim Sam Ath, police chief of the Immigration Police, said that the crackdown was a combination of immigration police Of the General Department of Immigration and Police of Poipet International Border Gate.
By noon on January 16, the Chinese mainland was sent to the Immigration office at Poipet International Border Gate, Banteay Meanchey Province.

It seems that it may now be more advantageous for the competent authorities to shakedown Chinese rather than barangs. This is simply because the large numbers of Chinese in the country makes it more profitable.

or maybe the government is reacting to complaints from local workers. Bet the Chinese are earning more than $3 a day on a building site. maybe they are there to enforce chines quality standards-)

Visa, work permit raids on construction site

Immigration police in Tuesday morning arrested more than 70 Chinese nationals for working illegally in Phnom Penh.
Lieutenant General Uk Hiesela, the director of investigations at the Interior Ministry’s department of immigration, said his police forces raided a construction site in Tuol Kok district to see if its staff were legally entitled to work in Cambodia.
Lt Gen Hiesela said: “Police forces arrested 74 Chinese people at the construction site.”
He said they were all being questioned at the immigration department to see if they have passports, work permits and other proper documents...

Immigration police official said that the immigration police force, the Poipet International Gate, detained about 50 Chinese nationals. Ten women were sent to the immigration police station at Poipet International Gateway to check the documents.
