I'm still waiting for Brett to tell more about the whole thing, as he's said he will do on his Facebook.Cam Nivag wrote:Interesting that the newspaper didn't print anything about his claims that his victim was a pedophile. They probably didn't want to be sued for defamation.

Re: Conman James G Eglitis (Oz) and Brett Hastie (NZ) Arrested for Robbing Learn4Life English Teacher in Siem Reap, Camb
Guido James Eglitis, a 70-year-old Vietnam war veteran, pleaded guilty to the offences and was handed a partially suspended jail term of three years and three months.
Brisbane District Court heard the kidnapping took place in April 2007.
Eglitis had been hired by another man to investigate what they believed was a fraud.
The pair hatched a plan to abduct businessman Ronald Sydney Ryton-Benson.
"Eglitis had become quite obsessed with what he saw as the injustice of it all and the loss of money by a large number of people," defence lawyer James Benjamin told the court.
In what prosecutors described as a "brazen" plan, Eglitis, then 59, pretended to be a police officer, handcuffed the victim, put a bag over his head, and took him to a garage at a house in Annerley on Brisbane's southside.
"He was tied, blindfolded and it would have been quite a significant ordeal for him," prosecutor Dzenita Balic said.
But Mr Ryton-Benson managed to escape and alert police.

Cambodia-linked conman jailed
November 1, 2017
- Mr Eglitis’ conviction on the 2007 charges followed his deportation last year from Cambodia, where he had holed up in Siem Reap for almost three years under the name of James An, passing himself off as an artist who also worked under the name Su Jia.
He held an exhibition at Sokha Hotel in October 2013 and claimed to also be a former long-term US intelligence officer who had lived in China, and an impassioned paedophile hunter working with Interpol and international police forces.
But Mr Eglitis was a serial fraudster and conman who had served in the Australian Royal Navy until 1981. In 1983 he surfaced in California and became involved in boiler-room schemes and frauds.
In February 1988 he pleaded guilty in the Los Angeles Federal Court to counts of mail fraud and was described by the federal prosecutor as “one of the more notorious of the boiler-room salesmen”.
Back in Australia in the 1990s he was accused of fraudulent activity in Sydney, and in 1998 his activities earned him a chapter in a book called Scams and swindlers: Investment disasters and how to avoid them, by Bruce Brown.
In 1996, he was accused of selling futures to three Sydney investors without a futures trading licence.
In 2007, as a licensed private investigator in Queensland, he was charged with impersonating a police officer, forcible confinement and threatening a businessman whom he believed owed money.
He jumped bail during his trial and fled to China, then Cambodia...

If he used his powers for good, he would probably be as successful as he claimed.

Thanks, just remembered a connection somewhere. That was a fucked up story and I wondered what happened on that side. Great to see they got munro and would be nice to know if the bloke reconciled with his son ? Good news would be nice once in a while
Re: Conman James G Eglitis (Oz) and Brett Hastie (NZ) Arrested for Robbing Learn4Life English Teacher in Siem Reap, Camb
Tony Munro was sentenced in August. Eglitis (working under the name James An) was very helpful in forcing the hand of Munro to leave Siem Reap and face the music back in Adelaide. While monitoring Munro Eglitis and Hastie were arrested for robbery of another ex-pat (and friend of Murno's) in Siem Reap and were at the time working with Australian police knowledge (requests for information/evidence) when they confronted this person, suspected of being a wanted pedophile. One of Munro's victims, Andrew McIntyre continues to push for investigation of Munro and his father, Max, who died in June, over the disappearance of the Beaumont children.

Looks like Eglitis was banged up in Aus for 4 months last Oct (2017) for the 2007 'kidnap and torture' he was wanted for there. Due out about now.
