Re: Police "check-points" suspended immediately
There's been a big crackdown on driving offenses over the last few days, and many people are being a bit more careful about driving the wrong way down a street without a helmet. As for the Chinese Premier visiting I havn't noticed any more security on the streets than normal.
Silence, exile, and cunning.

Crossing the Sisowath road at street 110 , where they have installed lights is always a gamble with your life. Two days ago I thought I would take a video of the traffic coming towards me as I crossed, showing the traffic going through the red light..
For the first time ,,, every damn car and moto stopped. The next day [ yesterday ] the same thing happened and there were no cops about.

Re: Police "check-points" suspended immediately
My bike was impounded yesterday... Driving the wrong way is three days, but no helmet (my offence) one day is what we were was told. They take the bike from the sangkat police station to the kahn, then you pick it up there. I didn't go as I tend to say stuff I shouldn't in such circumstances (I actually had this thread in mind at the time, so almost went off to the head cop about Sar Kheng and all that, but figured it would rightfully be a bad idea so better if I just shut my trap and left pronto). First time I've been stopped (or stopped on my own) in probably 6 years. They had about 8-10 guys in the trap. Two "spotters" on each side hiding (total of four), then another four in the middle to actually get you. I got past 5-6 of them (one of which did the "I'll hit you" spiel). I could have escaped on my way to the sangkat as I quickly grabbed my keys and then slowly drove to the sangkat police station, but figured we should go as I literally live a block away and they'd recognise me.
Wasn't bad though, fine for the initial offence is only 15 000r with official receipt and all. I went to the dentist as she handled it all. Weirdly enough, lying in that chair was a good way to cool down, even though I was totally in the wrong. She knew I shouldn't stay as I tend to say stuff I shouldn't under these circumstances.
It was annoying as we could have easily walked to the dentist, which is less than 100m away, but at the last minute I decided I wanted to stop by the atm first, which is three blocks away, so I took the bike. She wore her helmet, but I said I didn't need mine as we weren't going far. This was in a small side road by the riverside where the cops never stop anyone. It was totally unexpected, so they caught a lot of people by surprise... I kind of feel bad now as they took a picture of her at the kahn.

They must have run out of teabags already.Kammekor wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 4:34 pmWell, since the staff of (the internet department) his security network probably read here as well I am sure the police will be packing their bags when i am ready to go home in an hour.Jasper wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 4:30 pm
The big boss man probably made the basic error of sending it to the lower ranks by email.
They’re back again today!

Yes, this morning the local policemen were back here as well. Here they don't take the bike though, and no helmet is 10k.

It’s very odd how they’ve been more prolific since the ‘ban’ instructions came into force!

There are a lot of police out because of the delegation in town. This includes traffic cops to stop the traffic for the motorcades.
It will be interesting to see how long this keeps up after everyone leaves and HE moves onto another pet peeve (read as whatever has annoyed him on the day), whatever that may be.
