Yawn . . . Clueless Tuktuk/taxi drivers
Re: Yawn . . . Clueless Tuktuk/taxi drivers
Are a lot of PassApp drivers fresh from the countryside? Some speak absolutely no English and have no idea where anything is or how to find the destinations marked on their phones.

Luckily they do speak Khmer. As long as you point them in the right direction then it is normally OK.
I always direct them to the nearest landmark which that are sure to know (big road/market or temple), the app does the rest. Grab is a little more difficult as it doesn't give a route, only a start and finish point.

And how is that different to any of the current bozo's who have been driving these streets for 10 years plus and still dont know where anything is unless its by a well known pagoda or market. At least these guys have got phones with a map on and a dot showing you where you are. unlike the old mob for whom a map is like kryptonite, seriously y'all ever see these guys try to read a map, takes ten of them holding it upside down and grunting like some hungry pigs before all deciding it must be by riverside as thats where western folks wanna go even though you told them street 440 in Khmer.

the only small problem I got (as you can add the drop off point via passapp) is if you're doing a round trip as they take you to the drop off location but the journey (when i did it) automatically stopped and totted up the price and i had to book him again while sat in his cab. So if i am doing a round trip i just direct them. but yeah helps if you speak some of the local language.cautious colin wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 12:04 pmLuckily they do speak Khmer. Can you hop into a PassApp-tuktuk and go by the meter without booking?

no you need an account as passapp take a % i believe - you can hop in and negotiate as per normal tuk tuk which as they are cheaper to run would no doubt be cheaper but it wont be metered the same so far as I am aware anyway thats why you need it linked to your app and account.

Grab shows the route at least to the driver. But I have noticed most drivers have no clue how to use the app. Uber is much better in this. Most drivers know how to use the route/map function.cautious colin wrote: ↑Wed Jan 10, 2018 12:04 pmLuckily they do speak Khmer.
