Google Translate is freaking out Sihanoukville

This is a part of our Cambodia forums to chat about anything Cambodia-related. This discussion forum is at the top of our site because it's usually the busiest part of the expat community chatter with random topics on just about everything, including expat life, Khmer politics, Cambodian blogs we have or have come across, or whatever else our members want to discuss. Whether you're an expatriate, tourist, Cambodian or random traveler just passing through South East Asia, you are welcome to talk about anything or start new topics yourselves.

Yeah, so Sihanoukville didn't exist. Looks like the port of Kampong Saom was nearer Srey Ambel.

That is an outrage! Google should label it "New Beijing" and be done with it.

I'd prefer some sort of 'combo' of the old and new - Xi'anoukville (phonetically, it's almost the same).

What matters is only how the locals are calling, that's the true name.

Frogs have a tendency to give a new name to every city they've been through.

Sihanoukville, Pekin, Londres, Cambodge (Cambodia) ...

Ok, chinese does the same too

I worked with an American who couldn't say Cambodia... it was "Camboja". That's okay though... because he thought Busan and Pusan in Korea were two different cities.
