Bus accident kills at least five

At least five people died yesterday in an accident involving a bus, car and large truck in Pursat province’s Krakor district.

Pursat provincial police chief Saron Chanthy said the accident happened at about 4.40pm, killing four people instantly with another dying later in hospital. At least four passengers, including a female tourist from Germany, were injured.

According to Mr Chanthy, among the dead was the chief councillor of Krakor district, Soth Dara, who reportedly drove his car into the lane of the bus, which was being operated by the Capitol Bus Company and driving in the opposite direction.

“Our officers are seeking the addresses of the victims. We have identified three people now,” he said, adding that all injured passengers were taken to the provincial hospital for treatment except the German tourist, who was brought to Phnom Penh.

Mr Chanthy said the bus, which was heading to Battambang from Phnom Penh, hit Mr Dara’s car and then careened into the opposite lane where it hit a large truck, causing serious damage and killing several of the bus passengers.

“This is preliminary information from witnesses and from our investigation to determine who is right and who is wrong,” he added.

Capitol Bus Company ticket vendors said they were unable to provide information about the incident and said their manager was out of the office.

PURSAT - At least four people died in a terrible three-way accident which occurred today (2 January 2018), around 5pm, near Saravann village, Snao Anar commune, Krakor district, Pursat province.
Traffic police in Pursat province said there was a traffic accident between a bus full of passengers, a Corolla car which steered into the lane of the bus, and a large truck which hit the bus from the front.
Presumably this means that the car, which was overtaking the truck, hit the bus head on, diverting the bus into the opposite lane where it was struck by the on-coming truck. The car spun off the road, landing in a roadside pond.
A number of people were injured, some seriously, and there is an unconfirmed report of a later death.

The only good thing about this is the guy who caused the accident will not be causing anymore. Too often these idiots drive off and get away with it
