Computer Owners Connected To The Internet Are Urged To Do This Today..

Post by AndyKK »

Anyone doing this?

Computer owners accross Cambodia are turning to a new software solution that has gone viral this year. It's a new product that is designed to check for the latest viruses (Including the recent 'WannaCry' & 'Petya' viruses), prevent hackers accessing your information, and even helping remove unwanted software to speed up your performance.

If you live in Cambodia and have a computer unprotected, not running how you like it or just want to protect yourself from the most recent threats, then this may be the most important article you read this year.

Part of a marketing strategy.
The same ad is all over the internet with the word 'Cambodia' replaced with 'US', 'Portugal', 'Australia', etc.

From Malwarebytes: "The Malwarebytes research team has determined that ScanGuard is a "system optimizer". These so-called "system optimizers" use intentional false positives to convince users that their systems have problems. Then they try to sell you their software, claiming it will remove these problems."

If your system is slow, or you suspect viruses, use a trusted Anti-virus not the latest viral solution.

The biggest fail in Cambodia is everyone uses fake windows and a fake copy of xyz antivirus. You have no idea what code was inserted into either by the person who cracked them. Get a genuie copy of windows, not easy to find in Cambodia but Ana computers stocks it. For the record I used to be an IT manager and antivirus is pretty useless. In general they have different algorithms and update schedules. We ran AVG, Kasperky and trend in separate layers and the oldes tone, trend , picked up 99% after it had got through the other 2! If you have a genuine copy of Windows then you can use windows defender which is pretty good these days and malware bytes. You can also use paragon backup and restore to keep regular backups just in case you get infected. Fast and free

Well, better rethink the use of CCleaner then, because it has been infected with malware itself....

Apparently they bought some infected code and used it together with their own code. I quit using CCleaner.

article was written in sept 2017

The discovery that the software had been illegally modified was made on September 12. The cloud-based version of the app was automatically updated.
Piriform encouraged all other users to update their CCleander software to version 5.34 or higher.
However, in a statement to USA TODAY the company emphasized that it believes it was able to disarm the threat before the malware was able to harm any of its customers.

my version is dec 13th
