26 December 2017
PHNOM PENH - A small fire caused by an electrical fault in the elevator on the 16th floor of the Lumiere Hotel, situated on the corner of Street 228, Street 55 in Chaktomuk Sangkat, Khan Daun Penh, Phnom Penh, created much alarm among hotel residents and some minor material damage.

The fire broke out at at 1:45 pm on Tuesday, December 26, and the fire brigade were called to the scene. Fortunately, the fire was extinguished before it spread and no one was injured in the incident.
Nevertheless, it would be interesting to know if emergency escape facilities were available in the building in case the evacuation of guests had proved to be necessary.

Cambodian emergency escape procedure ? you will be expecting working fire extinguishers and sprinkler systems next. I think the best you will get is a long hose on the bum gun :-)

Yeah! To me, it looks like a bunch of containers stacked 'uniquely', which would be an ingenious use but from what I know they can only go 5 high. Maybe Cambodia's building codes say differently...

Yes, absolutely it is only a matter of time. Those Chinese fire trucks from 1950 will be most effective dealing with a fire on the 16th floor. I went to look at an apartment at Casa by Meridian on Koh Pich. A 31-story building with no fire sprinkler system. Who would allow such a thing? Unfortunately "it" will happen.
