Huge new brigade getting extra funds

- The Cambodian government has diverted around $1 million in funding from the national budget to a new military unit that will be at least twice the size of a usual brigade – and possibly larger, officials said.

The government decree, signed November 6 but obtained yesterday, orders that 4 billion riel be diverted to Brigade 128, a new unit ostensibly created to patrol the border in Laos. According to the decree, the money will be “for purchasing the materials supporting the troops and offering the money to the troops”.

The brigade was previously lectured by Defence Minister Tea Banh on the importance of cracking down on “colour revolutions”, and when it was created, leader Meach Samut pledged his loyalty to HE and vowed to combat any individual or group that attempted to overthrow the government.

The unit, stationed in Stung Treng, was created in the aftermath of a border dispute with Laos, and currently boasts over 3,000 troops, almost double the size of a normal brigade.

$1 million divided by 3000 doesn't amount to much.

Yeah you cant really buy any big ticket items with $1m its probably gonna go to stuff like ammo and personal equipment for the soldiers.

I'll agree.Things like flip-flops, blankets and hammocks are more important to a jungle fighting force along our northern boarder.

I was thinking more like helmets that break when hit with hammers and body armor that don't actually stop bullets that they probably bought from some Chinese low-end state factory. Unless they have a factory for that stuff here which I doubt, but I could be wrong.

Exactly right "a soldiers blanket is of great importance to him".

When Sir Ralph Abercromby, was mortally wounded in the battle of Aboukir, a soldier’s blanket was placed under his head, to ease his pain. He asked what it was. “It’s only a soldier’s blanket,” was the reply. “Whose blanket is it?” said he, half lifting himself up. “Only one of the men’s.” “I wish to know the name of the man whose blanket this is.” “It is Duncan Roy’s, of the 42nd, Sir Ralph.”
“Then see that Duncan Roy gets his blanket this very night.” A soldiers blanket is of great importance to him.
