Tiger tourism: Cambodia's newest cash cow
PHNOM PENH -- Just 20 years ago, Cambodia was a country that many travelers to Southeast Asia skipped over to get to Thailand, Vietnam and other regional rivals. These days, they are flocking to see the country's pristine beaches, picturesque pagodas and famed Angkor temple complex.
In 2016, international arrivals to Cambodia increased by an annual 5% and pushed past 5 million, a number that is expected to increase by 11.5% this year and signifies a massive boost from the total of roughly 1 million tourists who visited in 2004.
But fears about limited scope for growth have spurred the government to consider new strategies to ratchet up tourism even further. One of the latest initiatives is "tiger tourism." Officials are aiming to bring the big cats, which have been functionally extinct in Cambodia since the last one was seen in 2007, back to the kingdom, a plan that they hope will bring both international praise for the revival of an extinct species and financial gain in the form of tourism returns.

They wont be feeding the tigers,, the tigers will be feeding the hordes of Chinese tourist that come to buy ground up tiger bones and dried tiger penis.
That will be accepted in KOW.
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

An idiotic plan supported by WWF who need something new to con their supporters into donating money to pay their wages?

When the locals discover the value Chinese place on tiger body parts, the tigers will have an increased menu.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

They can't even protect existing national parks....
Re: Tiger tourism: Cambodia's newest cash cow
So true. Check by yourself, if you drive from Mondolkiri to Ratanakiri (or vice versa) the new road will lead you through the Western part of the Lumphat Wildlife reserve between Kaoh Nheaek and the new bridge across the Srepok river at Lumphat. All you will see there, all the way to the river bank, is oil palm trees on a large land concession inside the wildlife reserve. Still called a reserve though... And don't get me started about the biggest national Park, Virachey....

I hope the palm plantation workers are fast runners because climbing a tree won't help. Actually you do not have to run faster than the tiger, only run faster than the slowest person with you (assuming only one tiger).

The subject has already come up a year ago, and in the meantime, any possible wildlife habitat is being destroyed.
But if they released the tigers now, they could feed on the illegal loggers.
