Tourists told to pee outside at Poipet International Border

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Tourists told to pee outside at Poipet International Border

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

What do travelers need most after hours on a bus or in a minivan ? Think about it. Most of them really really need a toilet.

Well, these days they are tough out of luck when stopping at the busy Poipet international border between Cambodia and Thailand where there has been no water for sanitary services for the past 20 days. In other words, no toilets.

Locals and international tourists alike have been obliged to urinate wherever they can find a spot, a nearby wall is indicated for the gentlemen, and those who need a bowel movement must go and beg for use of a toilet in a casino.
The authorities have promised to rectify this embarrassing introduction to the Kingdom of Wonder as soon as possible, perhaps even today, 14 December. Now that would be a huge relief.

What do you mean there're no toilets ? Tourists search to relieve themselves in vain at Poipet border crossing.
Anyone that has found a toilet in working order, please let us know so we can pass on the information.

There is a reason why Poipet and toilet rhyme.

Disgraceful.

Huge casinos nearby, but hey, why would we ask them to help us?

Shameful.

Nothing has changed in 16 years.

Maybe they figured they don't need toilets with the Chinese coming in droves. They'll shit anywhere.

Shooting a rabbit is the custom in both countries. Shows some respect to follow a local tradition.
