This is the Chewbacca defence again, but but Hillary. This guy committed mass murder, so now mass murder is cool for everyone? MI5 is domestic terrorism but the CIA is offshore, so that would be MI6. The NSA would probably be more accurate for domestic. Yeah, these structures exist, however as mentioned we are talking about Cambodia, a one party dictatorship now as they are trying to fling all their political opponents into prison on trumped up charges. They already have hired goons to beat people up on marches, do you honestly think they are going to restrain themselves when they have a dedicated service to beating people with electrical cables and dumping their bodies in the river? They have a history of restraint...that genius wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 8:05 amThe ones who benefit from the acts of these violent agencies generally don't throw those privileges and wealth away, doofus.newkidontheblock wrote: ↑Thu Dec 14, 2017 2:56 amKindly try to refrain from comparing western democracies from ideological dictatorships. Good thing the CIA, Mossad and MI5 never indulged in any dirty tricks, right?
People don’t flee the USA en mass to escape the CIA or FBI or NSA, Britons don’t float on rickety rafts to escape the MI5 or MI6, Israeli’s aren’t crossing the boarder at night into Iran to flee the Mossad.
The CIA, Mossad and MI5 have been responsible for hundreds of thousands of human rights abuses...and if you have so little to say that is good about Cambodia, why are you not living in your beautiful western 'democracy'?
And let's not forget the west's convenient alliances with dictators...Chile, Cuba, the Philippines, Iran, Iraq, Libya, South Africa, Central America...Christ, if dictatorships are so offensive, why is the US always so ready to be in bed with them? The hypocrisy, really.
Your words tell us what a lovely system it is, but your actions speak louder.
I personally have no idea why someone who could live in country A would choose to live in country B, which they continually run down, whilst simultaneously ignoring the fact that their shiny western democracy has started more wars and been responsible for more deaths and suffering than any ideological dictatorship.
Their English proficiency does offer a clue, though.

I'm not discussing whether strong-arm tactics will or will not be used, I think you're missing the point.
I'm discussing whether the critics have a morally defensible platform when their country has a far worse history of human rights abuses and an unmatched one when it comes to warmongering.
I'm targeting the hypocrisy, especially given Murika's great contribution to Cambodia, aka mass bombing. Thanks, Henry Schmuckinger.
re goons beating up people, what about US police killing people for trivial or imaginary offences? Or Trump goons at rallies?

Re: New spy school to be led by HE's son
I have to both agree and disagree with all of you.
EVERYBODY'S DOING IT
All plural nations must often resort to unpopular control strategies to implement curbs on dissent which WILL exist in any large group and threaten stability or the status quo.
However, Cambodian-style methodology, mentioned here as the "hired goons" - uses the same control and security principles as the "enlightened first world countries" - just far less sophisticated, perhaps even crude. I call it "high school-level" practicality.
"Advanced" countries use complex camera systems, drone surveillance, SWAT teams with snipers and specialists, organized riot police marshalled into phalanx formations, and chemical, lethal, and sometimes non-lethal deterrents.
Are you telling me a troop of barely-fed, unmannered, hardly disciplined baton-wielding semi-patriots are a danger to democracy here? REALLY?!
THE OPPOSITION
If the moral right was with the opposition here, why don't they muster any support with people with backbone here? Meaning the good country folk? Or just one division of the military? Anyone willing to sacrifice themselves for the opposition's victory?
Seems to me, some sophistry is in the works from the *former* opposition party, cooked up by double-talking lawyers and accountants. Silver-tongued sycophants. Shut down.
CAVEAT
Now, I say these things about a tropical third world country still emerging from a civil war with a society still in the 1960s at the latest. These opinions of mine do not apply elsewhere.

Melvin Udall: Never, never, interrupt me, okay?
Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.
Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.
