Buy tuk tuk for my family

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

It's no secret that I've owned and driven tuk-tuks in Cambodia for at least three years as part of the social enterprise.

I've been openly criticised by Cambodians exactly twice for "taking work away from poor Cambodian men" - and these men have managed to lift their drunken heads enough to slur abuse at me before dropping back into their mid-morning stupour.

We also engage our local drivers often and recommend them to our homestay tenants, and have really good relationship with them. They have absolutely no issue with me driving our own tuk-tuks, and apparently nor does anybody else on the road. In fact, every single red light seems to turn into an opportunity for a quick chat and a how's your mother with at least two or three people. If anything, what's dangerous about me driving our tuk-tuks is Khmer being even more unthinking on the road because they're gawking at me and calling out greetings, while texting, picking zits, and turning corners blindly.

Not sure where any of you nay-sayers are getting your information or opinions from. I know I've been criticised openly for driving a tuk-tuk by one or two spleen-venters OTOF, but I think those people (or one in particular) are giving me way too much free rent in their heads. It's huge fun, even in traffic jams, it's something different the locals seem to enjoy, and it's just a form of transport.

December 12, 2017. I just logged back on after a couple of weeks and read all the entries since my last post. Thank you all for your input. You are mostly all as crazy as me BTW. I have stabilized physically and am returning after the holiday season to buy my tuk tuk. I realize no one is going to read this due to the last post being in late November but I felt thanks were in order. See ya out there- Jim

Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.
