A New, Cheap Taxi Service Starts in Phnom Penh (Taxi Rouge)
Re: A New, Cheap Taxi Service Starts in Phnom Penh (Taxi Rou
That was my first thought too. Why use the French word for red, when it has such a powerfully negative connotation there? It seems a bit like a Germany company calling itself "Swastika, Inc.".flying chicken wrote: Anyway, which retard came up with the name Taxi Rouge. I suppose he thought it appeals to foreign passengers, but I think not! "Hello and welcome to Taxi Rouge, hope you will have a safe journey," yea sure buddy!
Do so many locals still speak French?

For sure, we will all remember the name. A year or two from now, no one but newbies will make the obvious comment.

By the way, Expenhman, there's virtually not enough cabs in PP to flag one on the go. Chances are that the ones you'd see on the roads are already hired. I usually call one to my office and they often take 30 minutes to find the place.
When chatting with them, the cab drivers usually are hired well in advance and some regular customers have their phone numbers.

I was horrified to see my travel agent (yeah, I was that young once) had booked me into the Swastika Hotel in Bali for my first overseas trip. I had no idea that the swastika is an ancient symbol that was bastardised by the Nazis.Soi Dog wrote:That was my first thought too. Kidding. Don't know about this specific taxi company but I do wish they'd teach the drivers to, you know, drive! before they let them out on the road.

^ Hard to put that on the expense account.
