Finnish BegPacker Needs Your Help in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Shame that you cant help out your fellow expats or travelers these days without wondering if its a scam.

That said, I lent some money to an Australian guy I knew in Thailand decades ago to go home - I had his name and home address in Oz and knew his friends. I contacted him in Oz when I saw I got scammed and I saw he was earning well back home, but he never replied and I let it go in the end - hoping he will come back as a cockroach or a piece of shit in his next life.
Thems the breaks. You take your chances with people you meet in SEA, and you might trust a foreigner because you think you have something in common, or because you are drinking buddies for a month or two. Whatever. Don't lend what you can't afford to lose.
I tried to help a Brit years back, out of his luck. He had a serious infection of his feet and I sent him to hospital on my own Dime. Thanks I got: abused my staff and complained about the bad service at hospital (which I paid for)....

Yeah, no good deed goes unpunished. You did the right thing, and he was the arsehole.
Actually, I think its written somewhere that you get more merit for helping ungrateful bastards. ;-) Karma +.

its all about Karma.
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST
