We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

Campaign launched to end violence against women and children
November 27, 2017
The government and NGOs have started a 16-day campaign dubbed White Ribbon to raise awareness over and put an end to violence against women and children.

The Ministry of Women’s Affairs yesterday urged Cambodians throughout the country to join the campaign to stop violence against women. “Join the campaign to stop violence against women and children by changing your profile on social media to show that we all stand against violence against women,” a statement from the ministry said yesterday.

The campaign kicked off on Saturday and runs until December 10.

Sri Van Thol, country director of ADD International, said that women and children still suffer from domestic violence. “Women and children must live happily, so stop using violence against them,” he said.

According to a Unite Cambodia to End Violence Against Woman post on its Facebook page yesterday, 30 percent of women still suffer from domestic violence throughout the country.

Even though my user name has nothing to do with this (it's one of my favourite movies) I fully support this cause!
I currently have someone working for me that is hit black and blue by her husband regulary, usually when he needs money to buy more beer (she's the only breadwinner of the house) and feel very sorry for her but honestly don't know what I can do about it (I don't want to make an enemy and also don't want to make it worse by letting him now that I know what he does to her). If someone has any advice on how to handle this, please tell me. Stay out of the situation is probably the best advice but I've been doing that and it honestly doesn't feel right.
just noise, white noise

What sort of uniform did he have on ? [ asking on behalf of Tep Vanny ]
Cambodia,,,, Don't fall in love with her.
Like the spoilt child she is, she will not be happy till she destroys herself from within and breaks your heart.

No uniform. I was thinking of a barang who was literally taken off the street.

Violence against women.
So many Cambodian women are dealing with institutional violence.Like the case of the Daun Penh military police who allegedly caused the death of a Phnom Penh woman working as a prostitute ...
post156713.html?hilit=daun%20penh%20pol ... ng#p156713
No, that's not the same case of Daun Penh militia beating up women activists. But in both cases, women have been hard hit by the authorities for standing up for their rights.

Tep Vanny and fellow woman activists :
One of these defenders is Tep Vanny, a housing and land rights activist who has spent the past decade leading a peaceful resistance in defence of her community around the lake. She has been harassed and beaten, and targeted by the authorities with politically motivated criminal charges. She has been arrested at least five times just since the last general election in 2013. Most recently, she was picked up in August 2016 and eventually handed a two and a half year prison sentence. The “crime” for which she was arrested was her peaceful involvement in the “Black Monday” advocacy campaign, which highlights the imprisonment of five other rights defenders in Cambodia.
So, yes, it would be great to have a campaign against violence against ALL Cambodian women. Prostitutes or activists or housewives. They all deserve better treatment. :thumb:
