A Salute to 50 Years of Late Nights at Bangkok’s Malaysia Hotel

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

A Salute to 50 Years of Late Nights at Bangkok’s Malaysia Hotel

Upon opening in December 1967, the hotel quickly grew popular among American GIs visiting Bangkok for R&R for its convenient access to places such as Lumphini Park, the U.S. embassy, the Joint United States Military Advisory Group, or JUSMAG – not to mention Patpong and other red-light districts.
In the beginning, rooms started at a handsome 120 baht per night. After the American withdrawal from Vietnam, the loss of business forced the hotel to cut rates in half to only 60 baht.

my first trip ( back in 77) three of us had a triple room and all had soi cowboy girls> ahhh the memories.
Used the Malaysian as our go to hotel till we moved UP to the Crown on soi 6 LO :beer3:
In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

i think 1978 or 79 was my first time in bangkok.
you could buy legit sapphires for peanuts- set them in bali and sell the product literally by the kg in usa.
i sold a halliburton case full of it- abt 8 kg on the plane to the guy sitting next to me one time.
took some mucking around for him to find the cash quick on arrival.
