Man arrested for traffic in walkies-talkies and hacking police radio frequencies

Post by CEOCambodiaNews » Thu Nov 23, 2017 11:54 am

PHNOM PENH - A man involved in stealing the password of the police radio frequency and interrupting intercom phone conversations between police was arrested last week by the police of the Ministry of the Interior.

Police had been aware for some months that someone was intercepting and interfering with police radio communications. After lengthy investigations, they proceeded to arrest Hung Panny (50), who lives in Chom Chao Division of the Porsenchey District on November 16th. A press conference to announce the arrest was held on Tuesday by the Director General of the National Police Agency Intercom Office, Mong Sovanna.

Mong Sovanna reported that the suspect was involved in trafficking in walkie-talkies and stealing police radio frequency passwords that were sold to private individuals so that they could listen into police dialogue.
Mr Sovanna said the suspect was also involved in disrupting police investigations. For example, when the police were chasing criminals, the suspects would mimic animal sounds (such as barking) on the intercom phones in order to disrupt the police's chase.
"After months of thorough investigation and sufficient evidence, we finally learned about Hong Panny's identity and whereabouts and decided to conduct the arrest."

It is understood that Mr. Hung Panny will be charged under the illegal usage of intercom phones and frequency under Art.84 of the Criminal Code and will be sentenced to imprisonment for a duration of one to five years.
