We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. Teen murdered in capital as bystanders film
Tue, 21 November 2017
A 13-year old boy was killed in broad daylight on Monday in a brazen crime caught on camera by onlookers in Phnom Penh’s Prey Sar commune.
The video, which was circulated on social media yesterday and shot approximately 10 metres from the murder, shows a man kneeling in a shallow pool of water drowning the boy.

Chim Sitha, Dangkor district police chief, said that the suspect – Var Ratha, 33 – was being questioned by police and would be sent to court tomorrow. He said he had not seen the video.

“When we asked him why he beat the boy until he died, he said he was angry with the boy, who used a kamplus [a type of Cambodian toy gun] to shoot him [with a spitball],” he said. “The suspect said he had a ‘master spirit’ in his body that caused him to be angry.”

Sitha said the suspect fled after the crime, but other villagers held him.

Police initially suspected drug abuse played a part in the crime, he said, but a urine test did not turn up any illicit substances...

They should check to see if he was in Kampot recently... he could be the guy who decapitated the 'sorcerer'.
You could be next.

UPDATE:

Police declined to arrest "dangerous" suspect hours before murder, family says
Wed, 22 November 2017
The wife of a suspect charged for the murder of a 13-year old boy – whose drowning in broad daylight was caught on camera by onlookers – said she called police just hours before the Monday murder because her husband was behaving “dangerously”, but that officers declined to take action.

Ny Kunthea, 32, today said she called a police officer at about 1:30pm on Monday to ask officials to take Var Ratha, 33, to a drug rehabilitation centre because she feared he was using drugs.

“He used to take drugs. When he behaved strangely like this, I thought he had a drug problem [again] and called the police to take him to the drug rehabilitation centre. But the policeman replied that they couldn’t come because of a lack of police officials,” she said...

Because all the police officials are moonlighting as security guards.
