Gasoline turns cooking fire into inferno

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Kratie province - A case of gasoline stored next to a cooking fire in a small grocery shop in Sambor district, Kratie province on 12 November provoked an enormous flare up and much material damage as the fire became out of control.
Police Lieutenant Colonel Bun Chhoeun, police chief of Sambor district, said that police had to call two fire trucks to help extinguish the spread of the fire.
Residents of the shop and neighboring buildings all managed to evacuate the scene without major injury.

that could have been deadly.
better your assets get burned than your ass though

I hope they can recover financially after such devastation.

the Chinese fire extinguishers that Europe/uk import in bulk cost from just $10ea including shipping, duty & vat
with less taxes & distance to Cambodia they could be even less here if only the market was legislation backed & ready for it
a spend of $10 once in 10yrs should be possible for every small business with premises especially if cooking

Although there was significant damage, I’m happy to see that everyone made it out safe.

I don't think anyone storing gasoline next to open fire is too bothered with preventive fire safety measures.

its just lack of awareness not wilful ignorance

stop drop & roll
if in doubt get out
etc

common knowledge in the west but only because decades of awareness/education
Cambodia will catch up slowly but surely I bet
