Monks pay bribes to be policemen; get scammed by woman
Woman arrested for cheating monks
13 November 2017
POIPET - A woman was arrested on Friday for allegedly scamming three monks from a pagoda in Poipet.
Local police said the monks were eager to become military police and customs officers at the Poipet international border. The suspect said she could speed up their recruitment in exchange for payment.
“Each monk was to pay her $2,700 dollars for the whole process,” said Im Sophearak, Poipet chief of police.
“One monk gave her $500 and another $700. Three monks were cheated.
“They had already left the monkhood in preparation to become military police and customs officers at the checkpoint.”
