The records show that Costigan was not simply selling stolen stuff on eBay using a home computer. She was bringing her two daughters into local stores while stealing thousands of dollars worth of clothing, jewelry, etc. She did this on May 10 and December 17, 2008, going into two different stores with her children and stealing. There's no indication that the children were stealing, but Costigan stole items when the shopkeepers' attention was diverted to the children. It seems that on one occasion she gave the store owner the name "Michelle Castigon" during which time she whispered in the child's ear how to spell the name. As a result of these incidents, Costigan was charged with two counts each of theft, receiving stolen property, and corruption of minors.

Separately, in April 2008, Rochelle Costigan was accused of selling a barometer and Art of Shaving razor on eBay that had been stolen from another local store. The store owner saw the items for sale on eBay and made a bid and bought them and gave police the seller's information. Costigan, whom we know to be a local shoplifter, was the seller.

The police contacted her and she told the police she had bought the items at a "garage sale" and said she knew who she bought them from but would not give the person's name. She was charged only with receiving stolen property as a result of this incident and was not charged with theft or corrupting minors.

It is my personal opinion that Costigan's present-day lying about why she was charged with theft and corrupting minors in 2008 reflect poorly on her overall credibility. I think this should be taken into account when evaluating her claims of domestic violence, etc. against Nick Kanieff, claims which may still be true but may not be true.

Those are some very old charges and they seemed truthful about the one at least. Maybe the kid didnt know there was a second?
Also, there's no proof the kids stole anything and who knows what kind of position the mom was in at the time. If the worst thing she has on her record is theft from 10 years ago, that ain't too bad.

Involving children in criminal activities is a HUGE problem to overcome in family law. That alone would have her on supervised access only in Australia.
