First Angkor Night Run for Siem Reap

Post by CEOCambodiaNews »

26 October 2017
It has been announced that the first in a series of night runs will kick off in Siem Reap on 5 November 2017.

The National Olympic Committee has announced the first Angkor City Night Run in Siem Reap in the hope of enticing athletes and tourists to the famed temples of Angkor.
Starting on Pub Street, the run will finish at night, although at a distance of only five kilometres because the emphasis is more on fun than fitness.

It will be the first of three night runs in Siem Reap with two more scheduled for December 31 and January 28, 2018.

Mr Chamroeun said that while this first race is expected to have only 500 runners, the goal of the NOCC is to make this event just as successful as the other major long distance running events now hosted in Siem Reap.

Beat the heat.

By the way, are those full moons?

Can we be druids like at Stonehenge?

Actually, we could use some tree worshippers about now.
Melvin Udall: Never, never, interrupt me, okay?

Not if there's a fire, not even if you hear the sound of a thud from my home and one week later there's a smell coming from there that can only be a decaying human body and you have to hold a hanky to your face because the stench is so thick that you think you're going to faint.

Even then, don't come knocking...Not for ANY reason.

Rain fails to dampen Angkor City Night Run

Steady evening drizzle failed to dampen the enthusiasm of over 600 runners of all ages and abilities who took part in the country’s first ever Angkor City Night Run in Siem Reap on Sunday [5 November], setting the pace for a similar twilight treat for both locals and tourists on the eve of the upcoming New Year.

The 5km fun run began and ended in one of the city’s most famous areas, Pub Street, well known for its bustling nightlife of music, entertainment and international cuisine.
The runners warmed up with their glowsticks and bracelets to toe tapping music in front of a specially built stage on the busy street before coming under a gun start from Siem Reap’s Governor Khim Bunsong at the stroke of 7pm.

After completing a running course along the riverside well within an hour, it was music and dancing once again deep into the night. There were no prizes to be won and the winner was not even officially named, but in the true spirit of the event, the participants were happy to be given a chance for at least 10 of them to win several attractive items in a lucky draw.
The Cambodian Marathon Committee will study the feasibility of holding such events in other major cities like Phnom Penh, Battambang, Kampot and Sihanoukville.
