The attack was not entirely unprovoked; the animal is a gaur, he was discreetly visiting a ladycowfriend in the village, when a local paparazzi started taking his photo and he lost his temper.

- A rampaging gaur attacked and severely injured a 19-year-old man who was trying to take a picture of it in Preah Sihanouk’s Teuk Thla commune on Friday.
The commune police chief said the gaur panicked as the victim approached it with his phone to take the picture.
“The animal turned on him, hitting him in the waist. It was at was nighttime and the man was rushed to the provincial hospital. All expenditures will be covered by the environmental officers and forestry administration,” he said. The police chief said the animal was not malevolent, but became angered when disturbed by human behaviour.
“The only thing we can do right now is to educate people not to get close to these creatures, but it is hard to control youngsters who go to snap pictures,” he said. “The animals are very quiet, but the young man wanted to get closer to it.”
Mr Horn said that gaur venture out of their habitat at night and return to the mountain at dawn, mostly in the dry season. This one apparently followed the cow of a local villager. The owner got fearful and hid the cow, leaving the gaur to go through the village...
