No gas, no drones: Strict safety rules for Water Festival

Cambodia news in English! Here you'll find all the breaking news from Cambodia translated into English for our international readership and expat community to read and comment on. The majority of our news stories are gathered from the local Khmer newspapers, but we also bring you newsworthy media from Cambodia before you read them anywhere else. Because of the huge population of the capital city, most articles are from Phnom Penh, but Siem Reap, Sihanoukville, and Kampot often make the headlines as well. We report on all arrests and deaths of foreigners in Cambodia, and the details often come from the Cambodian police or local Khmer journalists. As an ASEAN news outlet, we also publish regional news and events from our neighboring countries. We also share local Khmer news stories that you won't find in English anywhere else. If you're looking for a certain article, you may use our site's search feature to find it quickly.

Two hurt as gas cannister explodes
3 november 2017
Two people were injured yesterday when a gas container exploded while they were frying meatballs at the former grounds of Dreamland Park during the first day of the Water Festival.
According to a police report, the small can of gas exploded when the vendor was frying meatballs at about 2pm to sell to revellers.

Ra Sreyleak, 20, and her niece Thy Molika, 6, were sent to hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries.

Sam Saron, who witnessed the incident, said that the victims’ bodies were burned by fire and hot oil, but not too seriously. Mr Sarorn said that bystanders helped the victims, pouring cold water on their wounds, before they were sent to hospital.

That's horrific. I have a relation here who got messed up by an exploding gas canister a few years ago. She's Chinese but her skin is all black now. We used to have plumbed-in gas in London, one time I was fixing a squeaky floorboard and put a nail bang through the center of a copper pipe. It didn't even leak until a few people walked over it. Lucky someone smelled it in time or the whole house could have been blown to smithereens. I'm glad there is no municipal gas supply here.
Silence, exile, and cunning.
