Lowcost locations for expats; Vietnam takes topspot.
Re: Lowcost locations for expats; Vietnam takes topspot.
Unfortunately, the low cost of living is just about the only advantage Vietnam has.
The other thing is political stability and relatively robust economic growth compared to some neighboring countries.
It's pretty hard to stay awake though.

I was quite happy to leave Vietnam 9 years ago but I am enjoying Ha Noi at the moment. Weather is perfect, the choice of food and drink is awesome, the girls are darn pretty
BUT
THE EFFING NOISE IS MAKING ME CRAZY!!!!!!

We Agee on all three issues, especially Vietnamese women. Unlike most German and American women I knew, so few had what we call in the US, "that corn fed Midwestern body build.". And the variety of Viet cuisine is overwhelming.

Wonderful weather in Ha Noi the last few days and I walked around a little, taking photos here and there:

Those are three things... aren't they? Now, add: pretty women and nice quiet area on Phu Quoc, and on January 31, for me it's -
"Good bye China, hello Vietnam!"
You could be next.

Some days I think I'm becoming immune to the horns, extreme voices and loud PA systems. Then I hear a long piercing bus horn or room-shaking exchange or an ear-busting taxi call and I'm ready to pack my bags.
But I don't think I can say bye bye to the "darn pretty girls" here. I'm not talking about bar girls, either. They sure are not shy. It's the thing I like.

I found Ha Noi living much cheaper than Cambodia. Some things are more expensive, but in general, compared to Siem Reap and PP i was spending about 2/3rds what i would spend for regular stuff eg meals, dental visits, you name it, and a most of it better quality too.
