19yo man sucked under by strong currents while swimming on Riverside
Phnom Penh:
On 17 October 2017, a 19 year old man, Eoung Kimhout, who was working on a lighting display on a boat docked on Riverside in front of the Royal Palace, decided to go for a dip in the river with three of his fellow workers when the job was postponed due to heavy rainfall.
Unfortunately, the rain storm made the river current stronger and more dangerous than usual, and the man was sucked under the water by the undertow and he disappeared from sight. His co-workers could do nothing to save him, and were not able to find the body because of the strong currents.
Sources report that the police were not of much help in finding the victim's body, which was eventually recovered the next day, 18 October.
