Smoking on Thai beaches BANNED

Thailand is Cambodia's neighbor to the West, and this forum is dedicated to Thai news, stories, reviews, blogs, videos, Thai people and anything else related to the country. A lot of expats have both lived and worked in Cambodia and Thailand, and this area is a place to discuss all aspects of life in Thailand and what's going on there. Most topics are about Bangkok and Pattaya because of their larger populations of expatriates and tourists in those cities, but this is for all things Thai.

Smoking on Thai beaches BANNED

Post by phuketrichard »

a very good move as everyone seems to think the beach is an ashtray!! :beer3:
Smoke on Thai beaches this high season and face jail or 100,000 baht fine
Smoking will be banned on 20 major Thai beaches from November. And smokers who flout the law will face a year's jail or a 100,000 baht fine....or both.

The strict penalties are in line with existing ordinances concerning causing damage to the environment.
Studies have shown that cigarette butts are a major cause of environmental damage not just to the sea and beaches but Thailand in general.
And the government - in a step by step by step approach - is targeting smokers as it tries to rid the country of an unwanted tag as one of the biggest environmental polluters in the world.

In a nation run by swine, all pigs are upward-mobile and the rest of us are fucked until we can put our acts together: not necessarily to win, but mainly to keep from losing completely. HST

A former colleague was proud to relate how he was fellated by a ladyboy on a Thai beach while smoking a heroin-laced cigarette.

Is it too late to turn him in and claim a reward?

Smoking ban: Hua Hin says 2,000 baht fine would be reasonable as “beach police” at the ready
12 October 2017
A representative of the Hua Hin authority has indicated that he thinks a 2,000 baht fine would be reasonable for smokers caught puffing on the resorts beaches next month.

The statement – reported by Thai Rath – came after alarm was caused Tuesday when environmental agencies announced a 20 beach ban that could lead to a year in jail and a 100,000 baht fine.

But – perhaps worryingly for smokers – Hua Hin also announced that “tetsakit”, tourist police and what was termed “beach police” would be patrolling to enforce the ban.
Jirawat Phramanee of the Hua Hin local authority said regarding the fines that they were “looking into what is reasonable”. He mentioned 2,000 baht.

Signs would be erected in three languages – Thai, English and Chinese. And there would be a designated smoking area on each beach.
