Coming from USA to teach possibly
Re: Coming from USA to teach possibly
I think you are positive. Nothing to lose, and only gain world experience. Also good for jobs in the future.Breaker207 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2017 6:31 pm I have never been to Cambodia before no. Of course it will be different than the US. Im expecting it: the good as well as the bad. I am not thinking on the ideas of a permanent move but at least try for 6 months to a year. Im not getting any younger and I just feel where Ive been now for the past 15 years there is no more room for job growth of any kind here(Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania). Ive been working in the casino industry for over 5 years now slinging cards mostly on the "Asian" Games of Bacarrat and Pai Gow Poker. While I could get a job almost anywhere with this type of experience, I really would like to try a job that has a more positive side to it such as teaching. Since I have no formal degree my options will be limited of course. I would def be taking the 4 week TEFL course with the practicum at the end.. Trying to just lie away credentials is wrong in my opinion and does no one good. I do not gamble at all and seeing on a daily basis some of our regulars have major issues with their addictions doesn't make for a good working environment regardless of how good the pay is. Im just thinking about doing something spontaneous for a change Live a little on the wild side. And try something totally new
Always "hope" but never "expect".

On a serious note I have been here over 20 years and love the place. I worked with the Ministry of Health for a while and was involved with health service delivery research but now I am retired. Phnom Penh is a great city I can get restaurants and good quality accommodation equivalent to Melbourne and at much less cost and with a better climate. The down side now is the traffic. The standard of driving here is appalling. I used to drive a Hilux here but now use my small moto as it is about the fastest form of transport, but over the last two years is getting risky. I cant see you having a problem, and if push came to shove you could survive on $800/MBreaker207 wrote: ↑Sun Oct 08, 2017 6:31 pm I have never been to Cambodia before no.
