- The chief of Kampong Speu’s planning department, his daughter and her husband were among four suspects charged with drug offences in the provincial court on Saturday. The suspects were identified as Kem Sarith, 51, his daughter Kem Somaly, her husband Yi Sambo, 26, and Noun Sarithdy, 18. They were arrested on Friday morning after military police raided Mr Sarith’s home in Chbar Mon city’s Rokar Thom commune.
Officers seized two big packages of crystal methamphetamine weighing nearly half a kilo, one scale, one pistol and bullets, as well as other drug-related materials.
Sok Vannak, deputy commander of Kampong Speu military police, said all four were charged with drug use and trafficking, while Mr Sarith was also accused of illegal weapons possession. They have been detained in prison as investigations continue.
