Riding without a helmet

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

So many "Temporary Cambodians " ride without due care or helmets and my personal favourite is the sight of kids standing up looking out the sunroof. Saw one kid standing on father (drivers )shoulder so she could hang half out of one.

I twice saw a kid driving with the father passed out in the passenger seat. The brat could hardly look over the dashboard...

First you'll complain about helmets. Then when people wear them you'll push boots, then when they catch on leather jackets. Then you'll complain about people collapsing from heat stroke
Scarier than malaria.

The only time I or the other villagers wear a helmet is when we go to Kampong Cham or some other destination outside of the village. Never in the village or to nearby villages.
As my old Cajun bait seller used to say, "I opes you luck.

Back home I would sometimes just wear a helmet (open face) and trainers, jumper and jeans (non armoured) on my sports bike. It was too hot to wear leathers.

Some people would tut or shake their head. These are the same dicks that have only been riding for six months and are so dangerous that I actively avoid them on the road.

I too like freedom :)
Always "hope" but never "expect".
