Introduce Yourself

This is where our community discusses almost anything! While we're mainly a Cambodia expat discussion forum and talk about expat life here, we debate about almost everything. Even if you're a tourist passing through Southeast Asia and want to connect with expatriates living and working in Cambodia, this is the first section of our site that you should check out. Our members start their own discussions or post links to other blogs and/or news articles they find interesting and want to chat about. So join in the fun and start new topics, or feel free to comment on anything our community members have already started! We also have some Khmer members here as well, but English is the main language used on CEO. You're welcome to have a look around, and if you decide you want to participate, you can become a part our international expat community by signing up for a free account.

Hello , I am a 53 year old photographer living in Manchester UK .

I am well travelled and concentrated on my photography and journeys, but now, back in the 'real' world is finding that recruiters are wary of employing me despite having a business degree and 25 years experience as a retail manager . I took 8 years out to 'explore' and finds myself in the position of owning my home , no rent , no mortgage but is in danger of not being able to afford my bills and being trapped in my lovely home !

I loved South East Asia and my time in Cambodia and is considering permanently renting out or selling my home and going on a NEW JOURNEY .

I have a lot of reading to do ,and has to figure out if I can make any income form renting, or selling my home last my days, or can i make a living as a photographer in S/E Asia .

I have lots to ponder and has lots of questions .

Haves a business degree yet struggles to correctly use possessives and third person. Has a serious suspicious.

"loved my time in Cambodia"

I'm sure you realize that visiting a place and living in a place are not the same thing.

Rent out the house for 6 months, come over here for that 6 months on a reconnaissance mission.

Richard will be along shortly to clue you in on the photography side of things. :thumb:

I have a very bad habit of typing quickly and using third person . I should slow down and think before typing . At least I don't write in text , but yes I did gain a degree 32 years ago but needs to refresh my knowledge of correct grammar . Thanks for pointing that out .

Any particular favourite photography locations in S/E Asia during your travelsEcho Beach ? I'm trying to learn photography skills pretty much from scratch as my main retirement hobby.

I love photographing people, and South Eastern Asia is ideal as so much life takes place outdoors , unlike here in the UK , where everyone is hiding behind net curtains .

People differ though , and i found people in Vietnam to be quite aggressive in asking for money , whereas Cambodians seemed very laid back and relaxed .

Angkor Wat is just superb though .

I face some difficult decisions because of my previous travels , and would love to be able to take photographs for a living , but it's a crowded market . If I cannot gain employment here in the UK I may make the decision to rent out my home and go travelling again . Good luck with your plans .
