Fireworks in truck: Three killed, three injured in explosion
4 September 2017
- A truck exploded in Banteay Meanchey province on Friday, killing all three occupants and injuring three more bystanders, with authorities finding remnants of Thai firecrackers at the scene.
The victims include truck driver and father of four Nhorn Virak, 35, and passengers Prom Ros, 43, and Seyha, 32, whose family name was unknown to police. The injured three were passengers in a nearby tuk-tuk when the vehicle exploded.
The incident occurred on Friday morning on National Road 5 in Mongkol Borei district. Seth Los, provincial deputy police chief, said yesterday that authorities still do not know definitively why the truck exploded.
“We do not know the reason of the explosion yet, but it is not a murder or a terrorist act,” Los said.
“According to an examination by authorities, the bodies and ashes gathered at the site did not contain any explosive which is produced in bombs. However, at the site, authorities found firecrackers made in Thailand and our authorities will continue to investigate.”
