Is there a go fund me set up for this? Has the person got family and close friends, and are they informed on the situation?Ronny wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 3:29 pmYup, 2 grand is a petty amount and it's sad this guy can't even cough up that much. And since it's such a petty amount I'm sure you'd have no trouble helping out a bit?Kammekor wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 12:33 pmOf course, most can't afford 100k if shit really hits the fan, and many are not willing to cough up 1.5k a year for medical insurance you probably don't use anyway because the chance you will spend over the deductible is small.AndyKK wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 11:45 am True dat. Ultimately though, I figure life's a bitch and you never know when your numbers up. If my number comes up because I can't afford 100k in medical, then so be it....
I don't just imagine but many people on this site will have lost family members and loved ones. And more then likely friends overseas.
Insurance, you have or not have, simple choice of your own. Afford it or not. I myself never had. I was quoted recently a premium of $1500.
But this thread is about a 36 years old chap ending up in the hospital due to pancreatic problems not being able to cough up 2k USD that might safe his life. That's just sad I think.
I would say most expats here have mainly got to focus on themselves, many have family's here. And quite a few are trying to work for a living. Not an easy task in Cambodia.
My friend a expat recently lent someone $2000 so he could return home for urgent medical help. The money was returned to him within two weeks.
Always "hope" but never "expect".

You seem intent on personal attacks, instead of debate.
My point is that you, who have enough cash (we have no way of knowing whether this is from Mother Theresa activities or from selling drugs), seem to be looking down on people who cannot raise 2K for medical.
Obviously, everybody WANTS medical, but you seem to consistently describe people who do not have 2K for same as 'stupid'.
So, by your logic, poor people are stupid, and rich people are smart?
No offence, but isn't that judgmental/stupid/arrogant?.
The point is, it is not about stupidity, but circumstances.
But you patronisingly refer to anyone who can not afford the 2K as 'stupid'.
Sorry to say it, but it reeks either of arrogance or stupidity.
Can you tell us which it is?
I personally think the word "haughty" would be suitable.

Your friend was damn lucky. When I loan money I hardly ever get paid back. I must have bad karma.AndyKK wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 6:19 pmIs there a go fund me set up for this? Well Mauser, there's some nice use of rhetoric above. Please allow me to point out some rhetoric tricks (ab)used by you.mauser765 wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 5:50 pmNow, now, Richard, calm down.phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 5:42 pm I am NOT talking about Locals, BUT about expats that choose to live in SE asia
Does not make you less of a person if you have no money, BUT I think, one should be responsible if they choose to live outside their own country and not have to resort to a go fund me page when things fuck up
Your free to twist my words anyway that suits you and Vlad is very very good at that....

Good start. Suggests you are the reasonable pal in this discussion and the other apparently lost his temper somewhere, or went over the edge. Bbut where did Phuketrichard make a personal attack? Where exactly did he lose his temper making you feel he has to 'calm down'?
I like the drugs part, making Phuketrichard look even more unreliable, you also seem to know Phuketrichard since you know he has enough cash. I don't understand why you think [Phuketrichard] seems to be looking down on people who can not raise 2K, because 'Phuketrichard' wrote:
but you have yourself covered yourself by using the word 'seem', haven't you?phuketrichard wrote: ↑Sun Sep 03, 2017 5:42 pmDoes not make you less of a person if you have no money, BUT I think, one should be responsible.....
OK, fair enough, you have the feeling he describes people as stupid. You can interpret his words. He never used the word though, or a similar word, so an explanation would have been nice here why you have this feeling.
Apparently you're not 100% sure what he's meaning, so you ask for a confirmation. Good.
Huh? Is that a question, or a statement? Were you sure about the meaning of Phuketrichards post? Did you just ask a rhetorical question and are you not interested at all because you've already made up your mind?
OK, so from you having the feeling Phuketrichard seeming to think some people are stupid, Phuketrichard now actually referred to them as 'stupid'. That's a really brilliant twist of events Mauser, congratulations! From you having the feeling he did it, we can lock him up now, because he 'patronisingly refers to anyone who can not afford the 2K as 'stupid'.
And you have to love this last one, a personal attack dressed up as a question. Just seconds after accusing Phuketrichard of making personal attacks.
Great example of (the art of?) rhetorics!

If it is offensive, then you can report the PM (as you know you should. Maybe include the PMs that you sent him at the same time).

LOL.
Seriously.
@kummekor: tldnr.
@general public: My point is this: a few people on here (usually those who like to mention how well off they are, ) like to patronise those who don't have healthcare as 'stupid'.
Here's an eye-opener, guys, almost all of us who cannot afford it would like it.
It's not about stupidity, it's about being able to afford it. But I suspect that you either know it, or you need to claim on your own insurance for brain damage.
There is a very small percentage who can afford it, but don't have it. In those few cases, yes it is unwise, but young people do stuff like that. Richard, I vaguely remember talk of a wild youth, I won't be too specific, but we all did stupid stuff when we were young.
So that narrows it down more:
You're over 30, say, you can afford healthcare, but you choose not to have it. I agree, that would be unwise. But do the mudslingers establish that first? Did they find out this guy's story? No, too busy telling everybody who can't afford healthcare how stupid they are, and how piffling the amount is...brag, brag, brag.
@ richard: I sent you a PM because you stirred shit for no reason whatsoever (perhaps you are still smarting about that Pattaya history incident, I have no idea) and I didn't want to to say what I had to say in public. People have been advised to do this several times. Surprise, I decided to take their advice.
Have a nice day.
