Toxic fumes from new cooking pot?
We bought a cheap little saucepan today, aluminium with some sort of outer coating. While it was over the flame we were both coughing in fits, and it didn't occur to me until later that there was a direct correlation between the coughing and the pot being on the stove. Has this happened to others?

I bought a new frying pan, Magic Mom brand and the coating started to come off on the first washing.

Maybe you couldn't get the sticky label off your non stick saucepan.

Cooking capsicum (little hot chilli peppers) in oil seems to have a choking effect on me, doesn't it on you?
Seems to rob the air of oxygen, or supplant it! Ever walk by a Thai outdoor gas stove, and be wafted by that oxygen-choking smoke?

Sorry about the insult. It seemed funny after 12 beers or so, but on reflection I feel bad about it.
Re: Toxic fumes from new cooking pot?
Maybe a silly question, but did you remove the plastic packaging and any stickers? I always give any new cookware a thorough wash before using, just to be safe.

Yes, all the packaging removed and I washed it twice. Our cook top is right next to a window (can't change it), I had just closed the window as it was almost blowing the gas flame out. When we both started coughing.
