when would you pull your plug
Re: when would you pull your plug
I hear a lot of people say this but the reality is that if you don't have medical insurance your family is your insurance, unless your parents/children don't really like you. If I got into a terrible accident, my family would go into debt to pay for my care. That's why I have medical insurance. Are you really so sure that if in 10 years something happens to you, your daughter wouldn't do everything she could to help?phuketrichard wrote:Never had Medical insurance ( don't believe in it) so cant imagine a long hospital stay to prolong my life.

Yup. It's a pretty narrow range of circumstances that the OP is imagining - so bad off that life isn't worth living, unable even to feed himself or take a walk, yet maintaining the physical and mental wherewithal to acquire the means to cap himself and implement them. I've sadly known a couple of people to reach the point the OP describes, and neither was in a position to do it unaided, requiring at the very least somebody to go out and buy the 'china white,' potentially making that person an accessory to murder. It's a dilemma. For sane people, if you are able to commit suicide, you are usually not so bad off that it is desirable, and if you are so bad off that it is desirable, you are not able to do it alone. Also worth noting that neither Hunter nor Papa were in a state described by the OP. They were just straightforward suicides, the former by a bored nut and the latter a clinical depressive, which I guess does provide a potential solution to the dilemma, to do it preemptively.dagenham wrote:The truth is that by the time one gets to the point of "possible no return" almost no one has the means and/or will to pull off a suicide of any kind at all. Your body is being controlled more than likely by others at that point.
Think about it. Unless you have either a loaded gun nearby at all times or a syringe with a wonderfully deadly dose of 100% heroin or a small cute capsule of cyanide, etc. you are not going to be in any position to get creative in organizing a successful suicide attempt.
Many, if not most, go awry by the way. Obviously greatly embarrassing and maybe one has messed up their body in the "process".
The serious people organize their "cocktail" in the fridge well beforehand. Or like Hunter and Hemingway have loaded shotguns in the corner...

white substance - means, suicide has to keep the body "intact", apparently, and has to be painfree - of course ?

Sounds like major depression. Get a pet. Maybe meds under a doctor's care. Exercise. Eat right. Sleep enough.
Re: when would you pull your plug
Been there once through depression about 15 years ago. Pulled the plug. Circumstances that I am not willing to explain, stopped it at the last possible second from being successful. THANK FUKING GOD. Suffice to say it was a serious attempt, not a cry for attention.
What a fuking great time I've had since. There has obviously been downs to go with the ups, but hey, those ups would never have happened if I hadn't been here. The only thing that would get me to even contemplate it again would be quadriplegia and as already mentioned, I wouldn't then be capable of ending it anyhow and I couldn't ask someone to do it for me.
NEVER GIVE UP, EVER.

Depression is a monster. The largest killer of males in Australia up to the age of 44 is suicide. 70% of them can be traced to Family court proceedings. The system is broken...

Re: when would you pull your plug
I've pondered suicide, but have never had the urge to actually hurt myself whatsoever.
I've definitely told my fam I want the plug pulled as soon as possible, as I've never been concerned much about trying to prolong life for the sake of longevity.
I guess if I had some injury (mental or physical) that just made my life miserable I see no problem with topping myself, and it pisses me off that some people would have a problem with me doing that to myself.
However, all that said, it just has never been something I think I'd try. I can't even imagine how I'd go about it.
I feel dark and sinister even imagining right now about killing myself.

And I can agree with this.phuketrichard wrote:
BUT i have decided that if it comes to the point that i can no longer feed myself, take a shit or walk on the beach, i would end it.
I don't see a problem with living a kick ass life, and then wanting to end it when shit starts breaking down in your older years.

Apparently the local inadvertent way is the new "in" thing in the west. Helium or NO2 canister, face mask, slow flow, off you go.
